Talavera
No matter where you are in the worId, meeting and connecting with local artisans is one of the best ways to truly get to know the people and the culture. And being able to support local craftspeople while taking a little piece of a special place with you is our crew’s favorite way to travel – and the reason we spent months looking for the perfect Talavera.

Talavera’s roots may be in Spain, but its spirit is all Mexican.

Mexican craftsmen learned the tradition from Spanish colonists but made it their own, infusing the technique with their indigenous culture and traditions and creating Talavera Poblana, or Mexican Talavera.

Today, Mexican Talavera is still made the old way by artisans who spend lifetimes honing their craft. They use the land their ancestors have walked for generations to make the tin-rich clay and grind colorful pigments from the area’s natural oxides. They take great care to preserve the traditions and the delicate process behind their ionic pieces.

Only a handful of authentic Talavera workshops exist and the ceramics are sought-after by visitors, collectors, and museums. After months of searching, our crew found the perfect one-of-a-kind pieces to serve as a reminder of the adventures that have come before, and to make celebrations, meals with fellow travelers, and everyday dinners a little richer.
